About Google Uyghurs
It's all about creating awareness and supporting a cause.
I'm just an art teacher in Manitoba. When I heard that 1-3 million Uyghur people are being held in detention facilities in the eastern Chinese province of Xinjiang, I felt I needed to do SOMETHING. "Google Uyghurs" was a phrase that was spelled out on the shirts of 13 individuals at the Washington Wizards home opener, Nov 30, 2019. I loved how powerful a simple graphic could be. Not only does this phrase create conversation, but it also challenges others to find out for themselves what is happening to the Uyghur people on the the other side of the planet. Now, other artists have joined me and contributed their art to this project. We do not make any money from this endeavour. 100% of the proceeds are going towards Uyghur advocacy efforts.
